During the recent pandemic, online video consultation services became widespread. This approach proved to be quite effective, especially in fields such as psychiatry, internal medicine, and dermatology. However, in pulmonology, where a comprehensive evaluation is based on a physical lung examination by the doctor, respiratory function tests, and imaging such as chest X-rays or CT scans, I personally find online consultations and advisory services to be less accurate.
Direct, face-to-face interaction with patients is my priority. Nonetheless, we offer an online consultation system for patients who live out of town, have difficulty bringing their patients in, or wish to get a second opinion based on their existing tests. In this system, I set aside a consultation time during the day to address questions from patients located outside the city or abroad via video call. It is essential that the patient has all their test results available during this consultation. While this method cannot replace an in-person examination, it provides an option for patients who have no other means of access. As this time slot is reserved exclusively for these consultations, it is subject to a fee, similar to other specialties.
